Disney has confirmed that they have chosen EA to make the upcoming Star Wars Games post LucasFilm Era.
Just weeks after Disney said that Lucas Arts would be shut down, they have announced that EA has won the licensing agreement to make the Star Wars Videogames over the next several years. After this announcement we think it is safe to say that Star Wars 1313 and Star Wars First Assault, have been canceled. If everything goes as planned, EA will produce the games for the popular consoles while Disney makes them for the mobile, social, tablet and online game categories.
“This agreement demonstrates our commitment to creating quality game experiences that drive the popularity of the Star Wars franchise for years to come,” said John Pleasants, Co-President of Disney Interactive. “Collaborating with one of the world’s premier game developers will allow us to bring an amazing portfolio of new Star Wars titles to our fans around the world.”
“Every developer dreams of creating games for the Star Wars universe,” said EA Labels President Frank Gibeau. “Three of our top studios will fulfill that dream, crafting epic adventures for Star Wars fans. DICE and Visceral will produce new games, joining the BioWare team which continues to develop for the Star Wars franchise. The new experiences we create may borrow from films, but the games will be entirely original with all new stories and gameplay.”
For now there is no info as to how many years the agreement is good for just that it will be for a various years and it is also not known how much EA will get for the agreement but there is a good chance that it will be a good sum since we are talking about Star Wars. It could be a little to soon to ask when the first game will come out or what it will be like but that is not a good reason not to speculate since we all know that they are only rumors until EA makes an official announcement.
