Looks like you can´t win them all since Apple loses the right to the iPhone name in Mexico.
You have probably heard that Apple was in a legal battle with a Mexican company that goes by the name of iFone. When Apple went to register this name in Mexico, they were told that the name was already taken, So Apple went home and accepted the defeat, yeah right! Apple did what Apple knows what to do and that is sue for the right to the iPhone name.
The first time s small court ruling said that Apple did not own the iPhone name in that country, so what Apple did was take the case to the Mexican Supreme court and Apple did not have any luck there either. The Mexican Supreme court said that Apple did not own the iPhone name, well, at least in Mexico they didn´t.
The Mexican Phone company registered the name in 2003, so Apple was obviously a little late. Now The iFone company is now free to continue pursuing damages from Apple and three Mexican carriers for using the name. For now there is no word on how much Apple might be forced to pay the iFone company but the law would even allow 40% of the iPhone sales in Mexico, according to the Wall Street.
This isn´t Apple only defeat since Apple also lost the right to the iPhone name rights in Brazil. IGB Eletronica, a Brazilian electronics company, claimed it owned the rights to the name and sold a smartphone named the Iphone Neo One.
