Nokia to definitely announce strategy shift for their smartphones, could they be switching platforms?.
Nokia smartphones could change completely on February 11th. For now, when someone thinks Nokia you think Symbian and MeeGo but that could all be in the past. We are going to have to wait until the 11th to see what the strategy shift is exactly but even Nokia said that changes must be made with the following comment.
Nokia’s CEO, Stephen Elop said that “Nokia must compete on an ecosystem-to-ecosystem basis. In addition to great devices, we must build, catalyze, and/or join a competitive ecosystem.”
There have been comments about Nokia switching platforms and now with the strategy shift Nokia has mentioned you can’t but imagine them switching their Symbian platform for another. What OS may they switch to, you ask? There is speculation that Nokia may be looking to switch to Android and leave Symbian behind. Developing for Windows Phone 7 could lead to some key developers being uncomfortable with the direction the company is taking, at a critical stage in its fightback against other smartphone
Looks like Nokia may be looking to spread its wings since Microsoft offers Nokia more limited options for personalizing its handsets. If Nokia Switched to Android Nokia is going to be able to embed support for its NAVTEQ mapping subsidiary instead of relying on Google’s own maps service. Lets see what you have in store for us Nokia.
