Skype may cease to exist if eBay looses Court battle over the system, court date set for June of 2010.
There is a pretty good chance that you are a Skype user or you are thinking of becoming one. Well, I suggest you don’t loose time because according to eBay Skype may not exist much longer. We can’t blame the world crisis for this one, it’s your typical revoked contract.
Skype was invented by Niklas Zennstrom and Janus Friis and they decided to sell Skype to eBay in 2005 for $2.6 billion but from the looks of it the previous Skype owners want their creation back. The case is going to court in June of 2010, but what is going on now is that Joltid, a company that was created by Skype’s founders, merely licensed some of the system’s core technology to eBay when it sold Skype to the auction giant in 2005.
Joltid now claims that the license has been revoked and eBay is infringing on its rights by continuing to use the technology. eBay is now working on a new system to replace Skype, just in case they loose the case but eBay fers that the new system may not succeed like Skype.
